GARP Announces Record-High 2008 FRM Exam Registrations
42% Increase in Early Registrations is Indicator of Global Acceptance of GARP’s Financial Risk Manager (FRM) Program
New York, London, Beijing, May 1, 2008 — The Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP: www.garp.org) announced today a surge in 2008 FRM® Exam early registrations, exceeding the total number of early registrants in 2007 by a record-breaking 42% for its Financial Risk Manager (FRM) Program, the certification recognized by financial risk professionals worldwide.
At the close of the Early Registration period on April 30, 2008 at 11:59PM EDT, GARP reported 9,020 early registrants for the 2008 FRM Exam, to be held on November 15, 2008. Early registrations for the 2008 FRM Exam represent 89% of the total number of all registrations received in 2007.
“As the global financial marketplace is coping with the reverberations of recent credit crises, the need for effective and competent risk management is critical, and the demand for skilled financial risk professionals has grown tremendously,” said Richard Apostolik, President & CEO of GARP. “The surge in FRM Exam registrations demonstrates strong growth in the FRM Program, which is practice-oriented and based on globally accepted industry standards, and is regarded by organizations and financial risk professionals alike as the benchmark that must be met by those who want to practice in this profession.”
There has been significant growth of the FRM Program all over the world, especially in India, China and Spain as candidates are recognizing the value of the FRM designation. In fact, there are mounting requests for additional FRM Exam sites around the globe.
The overall growth of the FRM Program has been dramatic both in terms of total registrations and global acceptance since its inception in 1997. The FRM Program has experienced a compounded annual growth rate of 23% over the last 6 years, higher than any other financial certification program in any 6-year period in history. A total of 2,483 organizations, including 26% of the Fortune Global 500 companies, from over 135 countries around the globe were represented by 10,135 FRM candidates in 2007.
Candidates may continue to register until October 15, 2008, with Standard Registration ending on August 31, 2008, and Late Registration ending October 15, 2008.
